March with Me (Book Review)

Wow! It has been a while since I’ve updated my blog. You know life just hits you with so many things sometimes that it’s very hard to find time for the things that you enjoy which in my case is blogging and reading. I did however find the time to read March with Me by Rosalie T. Turner which I throughly enjoyed! I will get back to updating my blog often but in the meantime, I’ve written a review of the novel and included my thoughts below:

I have read many fictional books written with the Civil Rights Movement as the backdrop. March with Me is by far one of the best. I didn’t think another book would top my all time favorite book, The Help written by Kathryn Stockett. March with Me has surpassed that and more. I truly enjoyed reading the different perspectives coming from Letitia and Martha Ann.  I wasn’t born during that era so I really don’t know what it was like to experience life under Jim Crow besides what I’ve learned through history books, TV or books written about the subject. I am going to be honest and say that although my favorite subject in school was history, I’m ashamed to admit that I have never even heard of the Children’s March until I read this book. I’ve learned so much just by reading about these two girls.

I know that the story is fictional but let me tell you that reading March with Me was definitely an eye opener for me. I loved the author’s writing style because she kept me consistently changing the pages to find out what was going to happen next. March with Me was definitely a page turner! I loved every aspect of the novel. I did a little more research into the Children’s March when I finished reading the book because I wanted to learn a little more. Rosalie Turner gave me the opportunity to take a peek into these young ladies’ lives and view the Civil Rights movement from two different perspectives and cultures. I love the unique approach that she took in telling this coming of age story.  This was fine story telling at its best and I highly recommend reading this book. You won’t regret it. I truly enjoyed every bit of it!

If you enjoy reading historical fiction based on facts then I would definitely pick this book up. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I have. I had a very hard time putting the book down. That’s how well written it is.
